Renee Taylor

Renee Taylor wrote My Life on a Diet in 1986.  Today, she is starring in the one person play “My Life On A Diet”.  According to Renee and her co-writer husband, Joseph Bologna, they are still “workshopping it”.    This means they are still tweaking it here and there.  I had the pleasure of viewing a performance yesterday and it is hilarious.

Renee summarizes the highlights of her life and her career punctuated with diets that are some of the most peculiar that you have ever heard.

My thoughts and reactions were through the lenses of the subscribers of BoomerPremierDating.com.  How many Boomer age people are also living their lives on diets?….some very weird, some very unhealthy…and hopefully…some very healthy.

True…we always assume that a “diet” means to eliminate foods so that the person can eliminate weight.  But, a healthy “diet” can be to maintain weight and maintain health.

One of the many poignant lines in the play was a quote from Marilyn Monroe to Renee Taylor during a break at an Actors Studio class.  Marilyn said: “When I’m hungry, its not necessarily for food.”   The point here is that if you are overweight because you are overeating, you should find out why you are overeating.

Are you eating to cover your emotions?  Do you feel bad about yourself?  Are you seeking something else in your life?  Then, does eating make you feel even worse about yourself?  An endless cycle.

Renee Taylor takes a humorous view of all this very serious stuff.  She laughs at herself and makes everyone also feel good in the process.
